Itinerary
Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (150m | 12 hrs drive / 1 hr flight)
The journey begins with travel from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, either by scenic overland drive or short domestic flight. As you descend into the Terai lowlands, the landscape transforms from hills to wide plains. Upon arrival, you check into the hotel and relax.
This day allows your body to adapt to warmer temperatures and prepares you for Nepal’s most remote river adventure.
Day 02: Drive from Nepalgunj to Sauli – Riverside Camp (300m | 6 hrs drive)
After breakfast, drive through remote western Nepal to Sauli, the official put-in point of the Karnali River. The road winds through isolated villages and forests, highlighting how far this region is from mainstream tourism.
Upon arrival, meet the rafting crew and receive a comprehensive safety and paddling briefing. Camp is set beside the river, marking the true beginning of the expedition.
Day 03: Raft from Sauli to Riverside Camp (Class III–IV | 5–6 hrs)
The first full rafting day begins on wide flowing water with manageable rapids—perfect for building confidence. Towering canyon walls, dense jungle, and untouched riverbanks dominate the scenery.
You pass occasional remote settlements, offering rare glimpses of traditional rural life. Camping is arranged on a sandy beach.
Day 04: Raft Through Deep Karnali Gorge (Class IV | 5–6 hrs)
Today the river narrows into deep gorges, producing longer and more technical rapids. Powerful waves and fast currents demand teamwork and skilled maneuvering.
Between rapids, calm pools allow you to absorb the dramatic canyon scenery and pristine wilderness.
Day 05: Raft from Gorge Section to Jungle Corridor (Class IV–V | Full Day)
One of the most thrilling days of the expedition. The Karnali delivers continuous rapids often described as a natural roller coaster. Dense jungle lines both banks, creating a feeling of complete isolation.
This day defines why Karnali is ranked among the world’s top classic river journeys.
Day 06: Raft Through Remote Far-Western Nepal (Class IV | 5–6 hrs)
The river widens, but power remains strong. Long wave trains alternate with technical rapids. Wildlife sightings along the riverbanks are common, and sandy beaches offer perfect camping spots.
Day 07: Raft Past Traditional Villages & Farmlands (Class III–IV | 5–6 hrs)
Small villages and farmland appear along the banks, showing how communities coexist with this mighty river. Rapids remain exciting but slightly less intense, making the day enjoyable and scenic.
Day 08: Raft Toward Lowland Terai Region (Class III–IV | 5–6 hrs)
The landscape gradually opens as the Karnali approaches the Terai plains. Jungle scenery dominates, and the river offers smooth flow with occasional powerful rapids.
Day 09: Raft from Camp to Chisapani –Drive to Bardia National Park (2–3 hrs rafting)
Enjoy a final rafting stretch to Chisapani, located on the East-West Highway. After lunch, drive to Bardia National Park.
Upon arrival, enjoy a briefing, Tharu village visit, museum tour, sunset viewing, and traditional cultural dance.
Day 10: Jungle Safari in Bardia National Park (Wildlife Day)
A full day dedicated to wildlife exploration including jeep safari, jungle walk, bird watching, and river activities. Bardia is one of Nepal’s best parks for spotting Royal Bengal tigers in a peaceful setting.
Day 11: Tharu Village Exploration – Drive from Bardia to Kathmandu / Pokhara
